YouTube Opens Certified Gambling Ads on 'Masthead' on October 21
Starting October 21, Google will begin allowing certified online gambling advertisers to advertise on the 'YouTube Masthead,' expanding a previous permission for sports betting.

Google published a notice on October 7, 14 days prior to implementation, stating that certified online gambling advertisers will be allowed to appear on the "YouTube Masthead" space starting October 21. The notice requires the advertiser to hold the "Gambling and Games" certification granted by Google.
The decision represents an expansion of the existing allowance for sports betting, extending it to a broader category of licensed advertisers on this prominent ad space at the top of the page.
Google excluded online gambling advertisers from the change who are not subject to mandatory state- or country-level registration obligations. It also emphasized that ads must adhere to "all legal, jurisdictional, and age restrictions" in effect in the target market.
This decision pertains to advertisers and agencies in the Arab region, where the gambling sector is considered a regulated and sensitive industry, and its legal status varies from one market to another. Therefore, the new permission places the responsibility of verifying licensing, age, and legal restrictions on the advertisers themselves before purchasing the space.
What do these terms mean?
"YouTube Masthead": The largest ad space on YouTube, appearing at the top of the homepage for a full day and reaching a wide audience.
"Gambling and Games" certification: A permit granted by Google to advertisers in the gambling sector after verifying their licenses, required to allow their ads to be displayed.
Sports Betting: Wagering on the outcomes of matches and sporting competitions, which was the category permitted on YouTube prior to this expansion.
Age restrictions: Rules preventing specific content or ads from being displayed to individuals under a certain age, applied according to local laws in each market.
