Jio Platforms Launches ₹30,213 Crore IPO

Jio Platforms, the digital arm of Reliance Group, opened an initial public offering worth ₹30,213 crore, with a price band between 1,065 and 1,119 rupees per share.

By the morning of the first day, the IPO was subscribed 1.22 times the offered shares, while the qualified institutional buyers portion reached a subscription of 3.77 times, according to market data.

The offering is scheduled to close on October 23, with trading tentatively set to begin on the Bombay and National stock exchanges in India around October 28.

The company intends to allocate up to 27,500 crore rupees to repay outstanding loans of its subsidiary Reliance Jio Infocomm, with the remainder directed toward general corporate purposes.

What do these terms mean?

Initial Public Offering (IPO): A company offering its shares to the public for the first time on a stock exchange to raise new capital or sell existing shares.

Crore Rupees: An Indian unit of measurement equal to ten million rupees; the term crore is also used to describe large numbers of shares or sums of money.

Qualified Institutional Buyers: Large funds and financial institutions with a separately reserved portion in a public offering, rather than priority in time over retail investors.

IPO Subscription: The ratio of demand for shares to the number of shares offered; a 1.22 times subscription means orders exceeded supply by about 22%.
