OpenAI Makes Its Most Advanced Models Available via Google Cloud

OpenAI announced that it will make its advanced language models available through the "Model Garden" service on Google Cloud, which provides access to more than 200 neural networks from Google, its partners, and open-source resources. The first model offered by the company there is "GPT-6 Astra," its flagship model that claims to have achieved breakthroughs in AI-generated mathematical problems and a perfect score in a benchmark measuring models' ability to detect and exploit security vulnerabilities.

OpenAI stated that "Astra" includes safety enhancements tailored for enterprise use, produces fewer misaligned outcomes than all the other frontier models it has evaluated, and is tuned not to exceed user-imposed constraints on permitted tasks. Alongside it, two smaller versions will be available, "GPT-6.1 Sol" and "GPT-6 Luna," which the company launched in late September, costing 5 times and 100 times less than "Astra," respectively.

Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said the company is focused on giving customers a wide selection of models so they can choose the best fit for each task, delivering better quality at lower costs. OpenAI added that Google Cloud customers will be able to pay for access to its models using their existing cloud spending commitments, streamlining procurement procedures. The three models are expected to be available within weeks, followed by a step to offer them within Google's confidential computing services.

The two companies also plan to make the models available through Google's "Antigravity" and "Gemini Agent" tools.
