Brent Exceeds $87, Above the UAE's Fiscal Breakeven Point

Benchmark Brent crude is trading above the $87 per barrel mark, comfortably exceeding by nearly $22 the UAE's fiscal breakeven point, which is estimated at around $65 per barrel.

This positive gap between the market price and the country's fiscal breakeven point provides a wide fiscal margin, enabling the UAE government to inject more investments into economic diversification projects and infrastructure development.

This price level comes amid OPEC+ efforts to maintain oil market stability, as Gulf nations carefully manage their oil production to keep prices above their governments' fiscal breakeven levels.

The UAE economy benefits from this price level by strengthening its financial reserves and funding sovereign wealth funds, while continuing to pour investments into renewable energy projects and advanced industries as part of the diversification path away from oil.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Fiscal Breakeven Point: The oil price a country needs to balance its budget so that it registers neither a deficit nor a surplus. Every dollar above this point represents a net profit for the treasury.

Brent Crude: The most widely used global benchmark for pricing oil; produced in the North Sea, it influences the prices of most oil grades worldwide.

Sovereign Wealth Fund: A state-owned fund in which oil surpluses are invested to generate returns for future generations, with the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) being one of the most prominent Gulf examples.
