ESA Commissions OHB for Studies on a Shared Lunar Platform
ESA has awarded OHB System feasibility and preliminary design studies for the OASIS shared lunar platform for power, communications, and data storage, without disclosing the contract value.

The European Space Agency (ESA) has awarded OHB System feasibility and preliminary design studies for the "OASIS" platform, a shared platform on the lunar surface aimed at providing power, communications, and data storage for multiple payloads.
A statement from the company explained that the work falls within the European lunar architecture alongside projects such as Argonaut, Ariane 6, Moonlight, and Lunar Pathfinder.
The value of the contract was not disclosed. The studies cover the feasibility and preliminary design phase, steps that precede a final implementation decision.
The platform represents a European attempt to build a shared infrastructure on the Moon serving multiple missions instead of each mission building its own system. This comes at a time when space agencies are turning to partnerships to share the costs of reaching the Moon.
What do these terms mean?
Feasibility study: An initial assessment that determines whether a project is technically and economically viable before committing to fully funding it.
Preliminary design: The phase of converting a project idea into basic engineering specifications before moving to detailed design.
Lunar architecture: A system of vehicles, platforms, and communications on or in orbit around the Moon serving multiple scientific and commercial missions.
