Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd return ME1 service to Suez Canal routing
Maersk is moving its India-Europe ME1 service, operated with Hapag-Lloyd under the Gemini alliance, back to the Suez Canal from the Cape of Good Hope route.

Maersk said its ME1 service between India and Europe will return to transiting the Suez Canal instead of the Cape of Good Hope route.
Maersk operates the service in partnership with Hapag-Lloyd under the Gemini alliance; it is a scheduled container line linking India and Europe through specific ports.
The container line had shifted to the longer Cape route earlier because of risks in the Red Sea.
Maersk said any further changes to Gemini alliance services would depend on sustained stability in the Red Sea.
What do these terms mean?
ME1 service: a scheduled container shipping line linking India and Europe through specific ports.
Gemini alliance: a partnership between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd to operate a shared container shipping network.
Cape of Good Hope: a sea route around southern Africa used as a longer alternative to the Suez Canal.
Suez Canal: an Egyptian waterway linking the Red Sea to the Mediterranean that shortens shipping voyages between Asia and Europe.
