Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Launch Construction of 1.2 GW Minya Solar Plant
Infinity Power and Hassan Allam signed the notice to proceed for the construction of the 1.2 GW Nefer Minya solar plant and 600 MWh battery storage, backed by debt financing of up to $566 million.

Infinity Power for renewable energy and Hassan Allam Utilities signed the notice to proceed for the construction of the Nefer Minya solar and battery storage project in West Minya, initiating full execution works for the project. The project includes 1.2 GW of solar PV and 600 MWh of battery storage.
The project is primarily designed for energy shifting, capturing solar output during peak daylight hours, storing it, and then dispatching clean energy during evening peak demand, while enhancing grid stability and improving the integration of renewable energy into the Egyptian electricity grid. Investors secured debt of up to $566 million, backed by a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company.
Mohamed Ismail Mansour, Co-Founder and Chairman of Infinity Power, stated that the notice to proceed moves the project from early development to full construction, and combining 1.2 GW of solar with 600 MWh of storage will enable reliable power generation at scale. He added that the project represents a step toward the company's goal of reaching 10 GW of operational capacity by 2032.
Nayer Fouad, Co-Founder and CEO of Infinity Power, said the project demonstrates how integrated solar and battery solutions can play a transformative role in building a more secure and sustainable energy future for Egypt. Upon operation, the project is expected to generate enough clean electricity to power approximately 1.4 million homes annually and avoid around 1.59 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.
What do these terms mean?
Gigawatt-peak (GWp): A unit measuring the maximum generating capacity of a solar plant under ideal irradiance conditions, which differs from actual generation throughout the day.
Battery Energy Storage System (BESS): Large batteries that store excess electricity during high production times and dispatch it when needed, converting intermittent energy into a more stable supply.
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA): A long-term contract under which a designated buyer, such as the national electricity company, purchases the plant's entire output at an agreed price.
