US Dollar Index Rebounds to 99.67 as September Rate Hike Expectations Rise
The US Dollar Index rebounded to the 99.67 level, supported by growing expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike in September following Warsh's hawkish comments at Jackson Hole.

The US Dollar Index (DXY) rebounded to the 99.67 level, posting a notable gain following the hawkish speech delivered by Federal Reserve official Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole conference, which raised expectations for a rate hike at the upcoming September meeting.
The Dollar Index measures the strength of the US currency against a basket of major currencies such as the euro, the British pound, and the Japanese yen. The rebound reversed a wave of weakness experienced by the dollar in recent weeks as interest rate hike expectations waned.
Emerging market currencies are facing renewed pressure amid the dollar's rise, as dollar strength encourages capital flight from emerging markets toward higher-yielding and safer US assets.
Economists warn that sustained dollar strength exacerbates the dollar-denominated debt burden on developing countries, especially those that borrowed in dollars to fund their infrastructure projects, as the repayment amount in their local currencies increases whenever the dollar strengthens.
What do these terms mean?
Dollar Index (DXY): An index that measures the value of the US dollar against a basket of six major currencies led by the euro. Its rise means the dollar is strengthening, while its fall means it is weakening.
Capital Flight: The outflow of foreign investments from a specific market toward other markets offering higher returns or lower risks. Higher US interest rates trigger this phenomenon in emerging markets.
Dollar-Denominated Debt: Loans obtained by countries or companies in US dollars. A rising dollar makes servicing them more expensive for those earning in local currencies.
