Brent Surpasses $116 as Houthi Attacks Threaten Saudi Energy Infrastructure
Brent crude jumped to $116.19 as Houthi attacks on Saudi facilities, including Aramco, escalated, and analysts raised fourth-quarter forecasts after an average of $80 became out of reach.
Brent crude surpassed $116 per barrel in Friday's trading, following an escalation of Houthi attacks on energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia, including facilities belonging to Aramco, according to energy news website OilPrice and American network CNBC.
Brent was trading at $114.00 per barrel, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) at $100.40, at the time OilPrice published its report. Brent later traded at $116.19, after reaching a session high of $117.45, as reported by CNBC.
The report stated that the attacks prompted bank analysts to revise their forecasts for the average price of Brent in the fourth quarter of the year, after considering that the previous average of $80 per barrel has become out of reach in light of current levels. This adjustment reflects a rapid change in market estimates, as forecasts were built on the assumption that prices would return to lower ranges.
Investors are monitoring the development of attacks on Saudi facilities, because any disruption in production or exports puts pressure on global supplies and raises energy costs for importing economies, including countries in the Arab region. This adds to existing risks in the oil market, making price fluctuations more acute in the coming period.
