Dubai Land Department brings Ejari and DEWA into DubaiNow app

Dubai Land Department announced on Monday an upgraded Ejari service that lets tenants and landlords create, register, renew and cancel lease contracts through the DubaiNow app, instead of moving between separate digital services.

For a new tenant, the journey begins with creating and registering the contract inside the app, and once the contract is approved an Ejari certificate is issued immediately. The DEWA deposit for electricity and water connection can be paid in the same digital journey, and the app supports renewing and cancelling existing contracts and links the two parties through the UAE PASS digital identity system.

Mohammed Ali Al Badwawi, CEO of the Real Estate Registration Sector, Dubai Land Department, said the upgraded service brings different parts of the leasing process together on a trusted government platform, and that the department continues to simplify procedures with its partners. Dr Moza Suwaidan, Executive Director of the Digital Applications and Platforms Sector, Digital Dubai Government Establishment, said the success of digital transformation is measured by its impact on people's lives, with fewer steps, shorter time and a smoother experience.

The integration between Ejari and DEWA services reduces the need for separate procedures when moving to a new home or renewing a lease contract, and comes within Dubai's efforts to connect its government services so residents can complete related transactions from one place.

What do these terms mean?

Ejari: a government system in Dubai for registering lease contracts, which issues a certificate proving the tenancy relationship between landlord and tenant.

DEWA: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, the entity responsible for connecting electricity and water and issuing consumption bills.

UAE PASS: a government digital identity app that allows a user's identity to be verified and transactions to be signed electronically.
