UK and Australia Warn Against Travel to Saudi Arabia; US Urges Extreme Caution

The US Mission in Saudi Arabia warned of potential new attacks on airports and urged its citizens to exercise extreme caution when traveling by air, according to 'Gulf News'. Riyadh Airport was still suspended at the time the warning was issued.

The British Foreign Office shifted to an 'against all but essential travel to Saudi Arabia' classification on October 16, an escalation reflecting London's assessment of security risks in the country.

On October 17, Australia's Smartraveller raised its warning level to 'Do Not Travel' and called on its citizens to cancel or postpone all trips, including religious pilgrimages.

The three warnings affect broad segments of travelers seeking tourism, business, or Umrah, increasing pressure on airlines and hotels in Saudi Arabia in the coming period.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Travel Advisory: Guidance issued by a government to its citizens regarding another country, explaining the risk level at a destination and recommending specific behavior.

'Against all but essential travel': An advanced warning level meaning avoiding non-essential trips to the destination and limiting travel to strictly necessary visits.

'Do Not Travel': A strict warning calling for a complete refrain from traveling to the destination due to high security risks.
