Bitcoin Price Surpasses $95,000 Following Congressional Approval of Crypto Regulatory Framework

The price of Bitcoin surged past the $95,000 threshold per unit in U.S. market trading, recording a gain of over 12% within 48 hours, following the U.S. Senate's vote on a comprehensive regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies that defines the roles of regulatory bodies and sets clear standards for trading and custody.

Senior managers at institutional investment funds praised the legislative step, with BlackRock's Chief Investment Officer confirming that a clear regulatory framework removes the primary barrier preventing pension funds and major financial institutions from allocating portions to digital currencies. He explained that the firm will expand its Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in response to expected demand.

On the other hand, some economists warned against overinterpreting the price surge, noting that the market might be overpricing the positive short-term impact of the legislation. They added that actual implementation of the regulatory framework requires months of preparation and adjustment before its full implications on the market become clear.

Across the broader market, other major digital currencies such as Ethereum and Solana rose by percentages ranging between 8% and 15%, while major cryptocurrency exchanges saw heightened activity, recording record trading volumes surpassing the $50 billion mark in a single day.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Cryptocurrency Regulatory Framework: A set of laws and standards defining how digital currencies are traded and who oversees them, such as identifying supervisory entities and ensuring investor protection against fraud.

Institutional Investors: Major entities such as pension funds, insurance companies, and investment funds that inject billions into markets—their impact differs from individual investors in terms of influence on prices.

Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs): Investment vehicles that allow investors to invest in Bitcoin via traditional stock exchanges without needing to directly own the cryptocurrency, simplifying access and reducing technical complexities.
