Ripple Obtains Final Approval to Launch National Trust Bank

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) in the United States has granted Ripple final approval to operate Ripple National Trust Bank under a federal charter, following conditional approval obtained in December, according to PYMNTS on October 27, 2026.

Ripple stated that the bank will support its RLUSD stablecoin and provide digital asset custody services for its corporate clients.

The final approval comes after a period of conditional approval, enabling the company to move into full operation of the bank within the federal framework.

In contrast, the Independent Community Bankers of America (ICBA) is engaged in a legal dispute with the OCC regarding charter approvals for digital asset-related companies.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Federal Charter: A license granted by federal authorities in the United States to a financial institution to conduct specific activities under federal rules.

National Trust Bank: A licensed financial institution that offers asset custody and guardianship services, rather than a commercial bank offering loans and deposits in the traditional sense.

Stablecoin: A digital currency pegged to a traditional asset such as the dollar, aimed at reducing price volatility.
