42AI emerges from stealth with $62.5m for a behaviour-predicting model

Israeli company 42AI emerged from stealth with $62.5 million in seed funding accumulated over three years from its founders and Infinity Group, according to TechCrunch. The company is developing a behavioural model that aims to predict individual decisions in new situations.

The model is currently used by a handful of financial brokerages, where it helps forecast how individual traders will respond to volatile conditions. The company says it is working with 10 large brokerages on liquidity, margin requirements and hedging exposure.

The model analyses customer interactions and behaviour patterns rather than only extrapolating from past decisions, then turns that into probabilities for possible decisions. 42AI says it is also exploring uses in gaming, fraud prevention, cybersecurity and robotics.

The company did not disclose a valuation. It said the funding was not entirely raised from external investors, with part coming from the founders and from Infinity Group, founded by the CEO's father. 42AI now plans to raise more money.

What do these terms mean?

Seed funding: The first funding a company raises, usually used to build and test its first product.

World model: An AI system that builds an internal representation of how something works and uses it to predict what may happen next.

Hedging: A step that reduces the potential loss from a price move or a specific risk, such as fixing an exchange rate or buying protection against volatility.
