More than 27 million square metres of land in Riyadh entered the development phase after the application of the white land fee, according to Amlak citing the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing.

Building permits rose 37%, while the Etmam Centre processed more than 2,900 requests covering more than 800 million square metres.

The centre addressed more than 770 challenges facing developers and resolved most of them, in a step aimed at accelerating project implementation and removing procedural obstacles.

Activating white land is linked to increasing the supply of residential units and real estate assets in the capital, which is reflected in the rise in building permits in the recent period.

What do these terms mean?

White land fee: A fee imposed by the state on undeveloped land within the urban boundary, aimed at pushing owners to build on it instead of holding it unused.

Building permits: Official approvals issued by municipalities to the developer or owner before construction begins, whose number is used as an indicator of development activity.

Etmam Centre: A body concerned with facilitating real estate project procedures and resolving challenges facing developers.
