Drones Sink Ship Near Bulgarian Waters, 11 Missing

The cargo ship "HS Dignity," flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, sank off the Bulgarian town of Krapets near the border with Romania following a drone attack, while 11 of its 16 crew members remain missing, according to Reuters via gCaptain.

The source explained that five crew members were rescued, confirming that the Maltese ship "Chelsea-3" was struck by three drones but remained afloat, with all 15 of its crew members surviving.

In the same context, Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev said the outcome of these attacks "benefits the Russian Federation," referring to the party he believes the attack serves.

These attacks occur near the waters of NATO and European Union member states, increasing the risks threatening commercial navigation in the Black Sea and export corridors for grain and commodities.

What do these terms mean?

"HS Dignity": A commercial cargo ship flying the flag of Guinea-Bissau, a West African nation that grants ships the right to register under its flag.

Drones: Small unmanned aircraft guided remotely, used in maritime attacks because they are cheap and difficult to intercept.

Black Sea: A semi-enclosed sea surrounded by Russia, Ukraine, Turkey, and countries in Southeastern Europe, serving as a vital corridor for exporting grain and energy.
