Drop in Gold Prices in India Sparks Demand and First Buying Premium in 3 Months

The price of gold in India fell to around 148,200 rupees per 10 grams on Friday, after touching a two-week low at 145,627 rupees, driving up demand for jewelry, according to JewelBuzz Magazine.

Dealers raised their prices by up to $7 per ounce above the official domestic price, marking the first price premium in more than three months, compared to a discount of $6 a week ago.

Lower prices, coinciding with the wedding and festival season, helped stimulate demand for gold items, according to the report.

On the other hand, India's gold imports fell to $1.8 billion in September compared to $9.6 billion a year earlier. The premium in China ranged between $4 and $13 per ounce amid weak demand there, while several major Indian investment funds halted large investments in gold exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

What do these terms mean?
