"Seraphim": Space Companies Raise Record $20.8 Billion in a Single Quarter

A quarterly report by Seraphim, a firm specializing in space sector investments, revealed that space startups raised a record $20.8 billion across 216 deals during the third quarter of 2026, compared to $7.4 billion in the second quarter, representing nearly a three-fold increase.

The report, cited by Reuters via The Hindu Business Line, noted that the quarter set a record even after excluding a $10 billion funding round secured by Blue Origin, with deal values still reaching $10.8 billion, an all-time high.

The launch and space access sector accounted for $16.4 billion across 120 deals, making it the largest track for capital injection in the industry, as investors pivot toward infrastructure built once to serve many times.

Lucas Bishop of Seraphim stated that capital is following "evidence of commercial and institutional demand, rather than lingering excitement from IPO waves," reflecting a shift in investment logic from speculation to expected cash flows.

What do these terms mean?

Space economy: Commercial activities related to satellites, launch, and space data, not just government research.

Venture capital: Funds invested by specialized firms into high-risk startups in exchange for an equity stake.

Initial public offering (IPO): A company offering its shares to the public on the stock exchange for the first time, enabling the public to trade its stock.

Space infrastructure: Assets and systems built to serve the sector, such as launch platforms, satellite constellations, and ground stations.
