Egyptian Tourism Revenues Exceed $10 Billion in First Half of Year, Targeting $17.8 Billion

Egypt generated tourism revenues exceeding $10.2 billion during the first half of the fiscal year 2025/2026, a level that brings it closer to achieving a new annual record if forecasts remain on their expected positive trajectory through the end of June 2026.

Government forecasts indicate that full annual revenues are approaching the $17.8 billion threshold, a remarkable surge compared to previous years. Officials attribute this to the continuous recovery in international air traffic and rising tourism demand from both Gulf and European markets alike.

Tourism constitutes one of the most prominent sources of foreign currency for the Egyptian economy, alongside remittances from Egyptians abroad and Suez Canal revenues, making the continuation of the current momentum a key contributor to stabilizing foreign exchange reserves and supporting the value of the Egyptian pound.

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism intends to continue developing tourism offerings in non-traditional destinations such as South Sinai, Lower Egypt, and the Oases, aiming to distribute visitor flows and avoid over-reliance on traditional destinations like Sharm El-Sheikh, Luxor, and Cairo.

What do these terms mean?

**Tourism Revenues:** Total expenditure by foreign tourists within the country on accommodation, food, transportation, and services. It differs from the number of visitors in that it measures the actual economic impact of tourism.

**Foreign Currency:** Foreign currencies acquired by a country from its exports, services, and expatriate remittances, serving as an essential tool for importing goods and servicing external debt.
