Meta to Enable Conversion Measurement by Default Starting November 12

Meta announced that client-side conversion measurement will be enabled by default for every dataset sending events starting November 12, meaning advertisers will need to manually opt out if they wish to disable it.

The change excludes users in the European Union and the United Kingdom. It requires the Pixel to be installed directly on a page behind an email or phone number login so that the conversion can be matched to the user.

The activation comes ahead of Black Friday, a season marked by heavy ad spend and an increased need for accurate sales measurement. Advertisers who do not want this type of measurement must opt out in the settings before the specified date.

In a related context, Resemble AI found that 3,379 out of 37,768 ad files on Meta, equivalent to 8.9%, were AI-generated or modified, yet only two ads disclosed this.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Pixel: A small snippet of code placed on a website page to track visitor actions, such as purchases or sign-ups, and send the event to the ad platform.

Conversion Measurement: Tracking the action a user completes after seeing or clicking an ad, such as completing a purchase.

Dataset: A collection of events and information linked to a single source, used by advertisers to organize measurement and targeting.

Black Friday: A shopping day following Thanksgiving in the United States, characterized by numerous deals, discounts, and high ad spend.
