Qatari Court Orders Construction Company and its Director to Pay 11.8 Million Riyals
The Qatar Financial Centre Court ruled that a construction company and its director are jointly liable to pay 11.8 million riyals to a villa owner after misrepresentations were proven.

The First Instance Circuit of the Qatar Financial Centre Civil and Commercial Court ruled in judgment No. [2026] QIC (F) 68 ordering Charles Cross London and its director, Ayman Abdel Ghaffar, jointly and severally to pay 11.8 million riyals to villa owner Mohamed Mubarak Al-Hitmi, according to the Qatar International Court and Dispute Resolution Centre.
The judgment set a deadline of 28 days to pay the amount, after the court found that the two defendants made misrepresentations regarding the company's affiliation with a design office in London.
It was also revealed that the company was licensed only for design and consultancy work, yet it entered into construction contracts, which violated the scope of its license.
The ruling relied on Article 701 of the Qatari Civil Code, which regulates the contractor's liability for works performed through subcontractors, a principle that strengthens client protection in contractual disputes.
What do these terms mean?
Joint and several liability: An obligation of two or more people to pay the full amount, allowing the creditor to claim the entire amount from any of them.
Misrepresentation: Providing incorrect information regarding a specific capacity or capability to convince the other party to enter into a contract.
Subcontractor: A party that contracts with the main contractor to execute a portion of the work, while the main contractor remains liable to the client.
