Anthropic: Junior employees make up only 14% of its technical staff as Claude takes over coding

A report published by Anthropic revealed that the composition of its workforce and the nature of work within the company changed significantly over the past year as the use of artificial intelligence tools expanded, according to TechCrunch.

According to the report, the proportion of entry-level employees within technical departments fell from 21% to 14% since the beginning of 2025, while the rate of junior technical hiring dropped even sharper from 27% to 9%, as the share of technical teams in the total workforce shrank from 61% to 56%.

A survey conducted by the company in April 2026 showed that 27% of employees said they became more productive thanks to Claude, and 20% said their jobs shifted from executing work to managing Claude models, while meeting time per employee rose by 20%, and by 16% for technical contributors.

The report considers human attention and judgment to have become a bottleneck to productivity due to the large volume of text generated by artificial intelligence that requires reading and organizing, noting that the company found no signs of deteriorating code quality despite stressing that more code does not necessarily mean higher quality.

What do these terms mean?

Entry-level employees: Individuals at initial and entry-level job tiers who are starting their professional careers and typically require training.

Bottleneck: A point in a workflow that slows down overall performance when the volume of work exceeds its capacity to handle.

AI model management: Monitoring, reviewing, and directing the outputs of digital tools instead of executing tasks manually.
