Oracle, AstraZeneca, and M42 announced the launch of a program in Abu Dhabi that uses artificial intelligence to accelerate clinical trials and speed up patient enrollment, as reported by UA News from The National newspaper.
The program begins with uncontrolled hypertension. Seema Verma, executive vice president and general manager of Oracle Health and Life Sciences, said she expects the first results in about a year.
The partners plan to integrate electronic health records with clinical trial systems, in a move aimed at linking patient data with study data.
In a separate context, AstraZeneca intends to inject $50 million into trials it is conducting in the UAE in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.
What Do These Terms Mean?
Artificial Intelligence: Computer software that analyzes large amounts of data and learns from them to perform tasks that previously required human intervention.
Clinical Trials: Studies conducted on patient volunteers to test a new drug or treatment and ensure its efficacy and safety before approval.
Electronic Health Records: Digital files that store a patient's history, test results, and treatments within the hospital, replacing paper files.
