Saudi Arabia Closes Major Aramco Oil Pipeline Following Drone Attack

Saudi Arabia has reportedly shut down a major oil pipeline operated by Saudi Aramco following a drone attack targeting the facility on September 12, 2026. The shutdown raised serious concerns in international circles regarding potential escalation of tensions and its implications for global energy supplies.

Saudi Aramco has not yet issued official confirmation detailing the attack or an expected timeline for resuming oil pumping through the affected pipeline. Several oil export networks rely on the pipeline system connecting production fields to export ports in the region.

Global markets are closely monitoring developments, as Saudi Arabia is one of the world's largest oil exporters, and any disruption to its supply exerts direct pressure on international crude prices. Monitoring sources indicated that the full extent of the actual disruption will not be completely clear until field assessment operations are completed.

This incident comes amid rising security concerns surrounding energy infrastructure in the region, recalling the 2019 Abqaiq and Khurais attacks that temporarily knocked out about 5% of global oil supplies.

What do these terms mean?

Oil pipeline: A massive network of pipes that transports crude or refined oil from production fields to refineries or export ports, considered one of the most modern and safest means of oil transportation under normal conditions.

Drone: An unmanned aircraft that can be remotely piloted or programmed for autonomous navigation, increasingly used in attacks on infrastructure facilities due to low cost and limited radar signature.
