OPEC Lowers 2026 Oil Demand Growth Forecast to 180,000 Barrels per Day
OPEC cut its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026 to 180,000 barrels per day from 380,000, in its latest downward revision amid escalating Gulf attacks.

In its monthly report, OPEC lowered its forecast for global oil demand growth in 2026 to 180,000 barrels per day, down from a previous estimate of 380,000 barrels per day, according to Chinese platform Cailian (cls.cn).
This downward revision came amid escalating attacks on shipping in the Gulf and strikes on Saudi Arabia, marking the latest in a series of cuts made by the producer group to its forecasts this year.
The reduction in the demand growth forecast lowers the expected annual increase in oil consumption, reflecting a more cautious outlook on the pace of economic recovery and the impact of supply disruptions on global demand movement.
Arab investors are awaiting the impact of this on crude prices, producer countries' revenues, and their budgets, as demand estimates determine part of the trajectory of oil prices, whose movement affects fuel prices and operating costs in the region.
