Drone Attacks Knock Out 3 Russian 'Yandex' Data Centers

Three out of five data centers belonging to the Russian company Yandex were subjected to drone attacks, leaving them out of service and disrupting cloud computing and payment operations, according to a report by The Register.

The Sasovo site suffered severe damage, while the Kaluga and Vladimir sites were disrupted, including the 'Yandex Pay' digital payment service.

NetBlocks, a platform specializing in network monitoring, said Yandex Cloud's internet connectivity reached about 30% of its normal level on October 11.

For his part, the company's financial services official said users' funds are safe. The incident brings back to the forefront the vulnerability of digital infrastructure to military targeting, as data centers are no longer detached from conflict zones.
