Lithuania Foils Arson Attempt on Starlink Equipment Facility and Blames Russia
Lithuania foiled an arson attempt on a facility storing Starlink equipment, with its Prime Minister linking the incident to a Russian campaign.
Lithuanian Prime Minister Mindaugas Sinkevičius announced that security services foiled an arson attempt targeting a Lithuanian company facility storing communication equipment for SpaceX's Starlink network, according to the Kyiv Post.
Sinkevičius stated in a Facebook post that the attempt occurred after midnight but caused no damage because security agencies had warned the company in advance and tightened protection measures.
He added that "security services warned this company about potential attacks, security was reinforced, and the attempt failed," noting that his country considers the incident part of a Russian hybrid campaign that previously targeted similar sites in Poland and Bulgaria.
Sinkevičius called for an emergency meeting of the National Security Commission on Monday, October 19, to discuss the incident, along with the breach of Lithuanian airspace by an unidentified drone on Sunday morning, and to consider granting security agencies additional powers to intercept drones.
