Hyundai and Kiewit to Build US Shipyard Creating 3,000 Jobs
Hyundai signed an agreement with Kiewit to build an advanced shipyard in the United States, with construction set to begin in 2027 and operations in 2029, creating approximately 3,000 local jobs.

South Korea's HD Hyundai signed an agreement with US-based Kiewit to start building an advanced shipyard in the United States next year, with operations expected to begin in 2029 and create around 3,000 local jobs, according to Reuters.
Hyundai said the new shipyard will enhance US shipbuilding capabilities and help revitalize the sector, adding that the two partners will explore opportunities in commercial vessels and military support ships. A joint venture will be established to explore building support vessels for the US Navy, commercial opportunities, and supplying ship blocks and modules to US shipyards.
The project comes as part of South Korea's pledge to invest $150 billion in the US shipbuilding sector, which is part of $350 billion in investment funds Seoul agreed to inject into US projects in exchange for US tariff reductions last year.
Shipyard construction is scheduled to begin in 2027. Hyundai stated that the new shipyard would revitalize the US shipbuilding industry and expand cooperation between South Korea and the United States in this sector.
