Metlen and Thales Agree to Support Greece's Defense Communication Satellites

According to a press release published by the "Investegate" platform, citing the London Stock Exchange's Regulatory News Service, Metlen, Thales Alenia Space, and Thales Hellas signed a cooperation agreement to jointly prepare for Greece's future defense communication satellite program.

Metlen's M Technologies unit may contribute to the project, including the production of gallium within the supply chains of satellites built by Thales Alenia Space globally.

Thales Alenia Space will provide the secure communications satellite and its associated ground infrastructure, supporting Greece's sovereignty, communication security, and capability to offer jam-resistant links.

The agreement did not disclose any financial terms, budget, or timeline for the collaboration, a topic of interest to regional industry observers, as civil-defense satellite programs attract partners, advisors, and manufacturing capabilities in which Gulf and Arab companies could participate.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Gallium: A rare metal used in manufacturing electronic chips and satellite components, considered a critical material in space supply chains.

Secure Communications Satellite: A satellite designed to encrypt governmental and military communications, making them resistant to interception and jamming.

Ground Infrastructure: Ground stations and systems that manage satellite signals and distribute them to end users.
