Rivian Acquires UK's 'Third Dimension' to Accelerate Autonomous Driving
Rivian has acquired British world-model startup 'Third Dimension' in an undisclosed deal to add its 15-person team to its autonomous driving unit.

Electric vehicle maker Rivian has acquired UK-based startup Third Dimension, which uses artificial intelligence to transform photos and videos into realistic 3D worlds, in an undisclosed deal, according to TechCrunch.
The startup's 15-person team, mostly based in the UK, joined Rivian's autonomous driving and AI unit led by James Philbin, allowing the company to expand its AI hub in London.
Third Dimension was founded in 2024 by CEO Tolga Kart and Piotr Sokólski, and raised $7 million in a seed round from investors including Abstract Ventures, MVP, Soma Capital, and Solari Capital.
Rivian uses the technology to convert real-world driving data into editable simulation environments, rather than relying on synthetic data, as it collects data from tens of thousands of its vehicles, with its fleet uploading more than 400,000 sequences daily.
