The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore said that the Singapore-flagged container ship GFS Pride was hit by an unknown projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on October 13, catching fire and subsequently sinking.
The authority added that all 21 crew members were safely evacuated and are in good health, with no injuries reported among them.
It noted that a sister ship named GFS Giselle was damaged on October 14, but reached the anchorage under its own power, and its 22 crew members were safe.
The authority confirmed that there were no Singaporean citizens on board either vessel, as risks to container traffic in the strait escalate amidst differing accounts of the attacks.
