Anthropic Raises $4 Billion in New Funding Round, Valuation Reaches $61 Billion
Anthropic announced the closure of a $4 billion funding round that raised its valuation to $61 billion, making it one of the most valuable AI companies after OpenAI.

American AI company Anthropic announced the closing of a massive $4 billion funding round led by Amazon and several major venture capital funds, raising the company's valuation to $61 billion.
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei explained that the company will use the new funding to develop the next generation of Claude AI models, expand its computing infrastructure, and hire hundreds of researchers and engineers over the coming year.
This round comes amid fierce competition among major AI companies, as OpenAI alone has raised over $40 billion over the past two years, while companies like Google DeepMind and xAI seek to expand their market share.
Anthropic is considered one of the pioneers in safe artificial intelligence, having built its reputation on focusing on system safety and AI ethics rather than rushing toward rapid deployment. Investors estimate that total funding for AI companies has surpassed $100 billion since the launch of ChatGPT in 2022, in an investment wave the world has not seen since the dot-com bubble.
What Do These Terms Mean?
Funding Round: A stage of fundraising named by startups using letters: A, B, C... A late-stage round means the company has proven its success and is seeking larger growth prior to an IPO.
Valuation: The estimated market value of a company. $61 billion means investors believe the entire company is worth this figure, which exceeds the gross domestic product of several Arab countries.
Safe Artificial Intelligence: A research field studying how to build AI systems that do not harm humans. Anthropic was founded by researchers who split from OpenAI due to their conviction that safety must precede speed in development.
