Ras Al Khaimah Closes All Its Beaches After Oil Spill Off the Coast
Ras Al Khaimah has closed all its beaches until further notice following an oil spill from a tanker off the coast, while Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah have closed affected beaches.

Ras Al Khaimah authorities announced on Saturday, October 24, 2026, the closure of all beaches in the emirate until further notice, a day after beaches in Umm Al Quwain and Sharjah were closed due to an oil spill off the coast, as reported by Reuters via ThePrint website.
The UAE said on Friday that efforts are ongoing to contain an oil spill from a tanker off the coast, and that the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment is conducting an environmental assessment. Umm Al Quwain temporarily closed all its beaches and coastal areas until technical teams complete their assessments and determine the necessary safety and marine protection measures, calling on fishermen and sea users to avoid affected areas and follow official instructions.
Sharjah closed Al Hamriyah Beach on the northern coast near the border with Umm Al Quwain as a precautionary measure, according to the Sharjah Government Media Bureau. Residents reported unusual odors in parts of Sharjah, Ajman, and Umm Al Quwain, but the Ministry of Environment stated that they pose no health risks, at a time when the odor remained strong in Umm Al Quwain on Friday.
UAE authorities have not disclosed the name of the tanker responsible for the spill or the cause of the incident. Since the start of the US-Israeli war with Iran, attacks on commercial vessels in Gulf sea lanes have raised concerns over maritime security and the environmental repercussions of the conflict, at a time when Ras Al Khaimah is considered one of the country's prominent beach destinations.
