Iron Ore Falls to Two-Year Low Amid Chinese Demand Concerns

Iron ore prices dropped to their lowest levels in more than two years, driven by mounting concerns over weak demand in China, the world's largest consumer of the metal.

The main iron ore contract on the Dalian Commodity Exchange fell 1.2% to 662 yuan per ton, while the benchmark November contract on the Singapore Exchange declined 1.4% to $89.25 per ton.

Analysts attribute the decline to falling steel demand in China, alongside the usual seasonal slowdown in steel production during the fourth quarter, and expectations of increased shipments from major mining companies.

Mengtian Jiang, an analyst at Horizon Insights, stated that iron ore is likely to remain weak through November and could drop toward $85 to $86 per ton. This impacts major miners such as BHP, the world's largest mining company by market capitalization.
