Saudi Aramco Announces $32 Billion Quarterly Profit and Raises Dividend

Saudi Aramco reported a net profit of $32 billion for the second quarter of this year, surpassing market analysts' expectations of profits between $28 billion and $30 billion, driven by higher oil prices and sustained operational efficiency.

The company's board of directors announced an increase in quarterly dividend payouts to a new record level, a move reflecting management's confidence in the continuity of strong cash flows. These distributions represent a crucial figure for the budget of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which holds the majority stake in the company through the Public Investment Fund and Saudi Aramco.

On the investment front, the company announced plans to increase its refining and petrochemical capacity, while revealing new partnership agreements in Asia and Europe to enhance its presence in downstream sectors beyond mere crude production and export.

The CEO noted that the company will continue its investments in carbon capture and hydrogen technologies, emphasizing that Aramco will remain a reliable energy producer for decades to come while developing its clean energy footprint.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Quarterly Dividends: Amounts paid by a company to its shareholders every three months as a share of its profits — raised when confident in its financial future and reduced or suspended during crises; thus, raising them is considered a strong positive signal.

Refining Capacity: The ability of refineries to convert crude oil into finished products such as gasoline, diesel, and petrochemicals — increasing it means adding greater value to crude oil rather than selling it as is.

Carbon Capture: A technology that enables capturing carbon dioxide generated from burning fossil fuels before it reaches the atmosphere — oil companies consider it a solution to reduce their carbon footprint without ceasing production.
