Anthropic Files for Nasdaq IPO with an $80.7 Billion Loss

Anthropic filed an initial registration statement (S-1) with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to list its shares on the Nasdaq stock market under the ticker symbol "ANT", as reported by TechCrunch. The EDGAR database shows the filing is registered under CIK 0002130357.

Revenues for the first half of 2026 reached approximately $16.3 billion, compared to $1.2 billion in the corresponding period last year, while the operating loss stood at $693 million, down from an operating loss of $2.1 billion a year earlier.

The net loss reached $80.7 billion, which the filing mostly attributed to non-cash accounting adjustments related to convertible notes. The company stated that it "may not achieve or sustain profitability in the future."

The number of customers paying $100,000 or more annually reached around 11,900 by the end of September, including 1,900 customers paying $1 million or more, and about 250 customers paying $10 million or more. The seven founders will control 50.1% of the voting power following the offering.

What do these terms mean?

Convertible Notes: Bonds that can later be converted into shares in the company, subject to accounting treatment that may generate non-cash paper losses.

Operating Loss: The loss resulting from a company's core business activities before accounting for items such as interest, taxes, and accounting adjustments.
