ISRO Plans Four Launch Pads by 2029 and First Gaganyaan Test

The chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that India will have four operational launch pads by 2029, as part of an expansion plan reported by Moneycontrol.

The plan includes a dedicated complex for the SSLV rocket spanning two thousand acres in Kulasekarapatnam, Tamil Nadu, in addition to a third pad in Sriharikota.

He said that the first uncrewed test of the Gaganyaan spacecraft, designed for human spaceflight, will take place within two months, followed by two more tests before the first crewed mission.

He emphasized that ISRO will not become a private company, with Business Today reporting the same statements. India aims to expand its satellite launch and human spaceflight capabilities.

What do these terms mean?

SSLV: A small Indian rocket designed to launch light satellites into low Earth orbit at a lower cost.

Gaganyaan: India's human spaceflight program, which includes a spacecraft designed to carry astronauts into orbit.

Launch pad: The ground facility where a rocket is assembled, prepared, and launched.
