US Warns Its Citizens: Houthi Attacks Could Escalate Quickly

The US Department of State has updated travel warnings for 13 countries in the Middle East, advising its citizens to reconsider travel to Saudi Arabia and stating that Houthi attacks could escalate quickly, according to The National newspaper.

The department recommended that its citizens avoid traveling to areas near the Yemeni border. The updated warning follows a series of attacks attributed to the Houthis that affected air traffic in the Kingdom.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that the attack on Dammam resulted in the deaths of two people and injured eight others. King Khalid Airport in Riyadh was only partially reopened following the recent strikes.

The warning adds pressure to the region's travel and tourism sector, as it may prompt travelers to postpone trips or change destinations at a time when air traffic in several regional airports is affected.

What Do These Terms Mean?

Travel Advisory: Guidance issued by a country's government to its citizens outlining the level of risk at a specific destination and whether travel there should be postponed.

Civil Aviation: The authority responsible for regulating aircraft movement, airports, and flight security in a country.

Partial Reopening: Operating only a portion of airport facilities or flights, rather than resuming full-capacity operations.
