Honeywell Targets $60 Million in Annual Benefits from Dangote Refinery AI
Honeywell has deployed its Forge Plant Cognition platform at the Dangote refinery in Lagos, expecting total annual operational benefits exceeding $60 million at full capacity.

Honeywell announced the deployment of a new industrial artificial intelligence platform at the Dangote oil refinery in Lekki, Lagos State, Nigeria, according to Nairametrics on Monday.
The platform, named Forge Plant Cognition, combines accelerated computing capabilities from Nvidia with AI infrastructure from Dell to enhance productivity and operational efficiency.
The company expects the platform to generate total operational benefits exceeding $60 million annually when the refinery operates at full capacity, translating to over $0.29 per barrel. It emphasized that these estimates are preliminary and not guaranteed.
Dangote aims to increase its refinery capacity from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day by 2028, after raising its capacity to 700,000 barrels per day last June.
What do these terms mean?
Industrial Artificial Intelligence: Applying analytical models to factory and equipment data to improve operations and predict failures.
Accelerated Computing: Using specialized processors, such as graphics chips, to execute heavy computational tasks at higher speeds than traditional processors.
Total Operational Benefits: The value of increased production or cost savings before deducting additional expenses.
Barrel: A unit of volume measurement for crude oil, equivalent to approximately 159 liters.
