Global Organizations Shift Toward a "Zero Trust" Model to Face Escalating Cyber Threats
Major governments and corporations are adopting the Zero Trust security model, which enforces continuous verification for every user and device inside and outside the network, following a series of breaches like SolarWinds that exposed the vulnerability of traditional models.

In 2021, the White House issued an executive order requiring U.S. federal agencies to adopt a "Zero Trust" strategy by 2024, in what is considered an official government recognition that traditional security models based on firewalls have been surpassed by sophisticated cyberattacks.
Companies such as Microsoft, Google, Okta, and CrowdStrike are accelerating the market transition toward this model, which was valued at nearly $31 billion in 2024 and is expected to exceed $100 billion by 2030, as it enforces continuous verification of every access request regardless of its source.
The 2020 SolarWinds attacks, in which Russian actors breached a software distribution network used by thousands of companies and government agencies, proved that trusting internal networks is a costly illusion; the 2021 Microsoft Exchange breach further increased the pressure toward a stricter security approach.
Cybersecurity specialists in the Middle East note that Gulf governments and banks are accelerating their adoption of this model as part of digital transformation initiatives. Experts agree that investing in Zero Trust today saves many times the costs compared to the expense of a single security breach similar to those experienced by major regional institutions in recent years.
What do these terms mean?
Zero Trust: A security model that eliminates the concept of "inside the network = secure", and enforces continuous verification of the identity of every user, device, and application every time access to any resource is requested, regardless of its location.
SolarWinds: An American network management company through whose platform one of the largest breaches in history was executed in 2020, where malicious code was hidden inside a legitimate software update distributed to thousands of its public and private sector clients.
Firewall: A traditional security system that distinguishes between a trusted internal network and external networks; it has proven inadequate against internal threats and sophisticated breaches executed through vulnerabilities in software supply chains.
