TikTok Launches AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Checkout
TikTok announced an AI conversational shopping assistant and a 'Buy Direct' one-click checkout feature within the app, both currently undergoing limited testing with advertisers in the United States.

TikTok platform announced a conversational shopping assistant powered by artificial intelligence, and a new checkout feature named 'Buy Direct' allowing one-click purchases within the app, during the Advertising Week events in New York on October 5.
The shopping assistant inside the app's in-app browser answers user questions about products, sizing, delivery, and stock availability.
As for 'Buy Direct', it is a direct checkout feature from the content page that keeps the brand as the seller of record for the transaction, operating on the 'Universal Commerce Protocol' in partnership with Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza, and Stripe.
TikTok explained that both features are undergoing limited and conditional testing with advertisers in the United States, without specifying a date for their official release.
What Do These Terms Mean?
Seller of Record: The entity legally responsible for the sale transaction, collecting funds, and customer service; in this case, the brand remains the seller.
Universal Commerce Protocol: A technical standard unifying how stores and payment systems are connected to facilitate purchases inside different applications.
Social Commerce: Buying and selling that takes place within social media platforms instead of standalone websites.
